August 15th, or “Dekapentavgoustos”, is one of the most significant days in the Greek Orthodox calendar. No matter what your religion is, celebrate the day with the locals, do not get surprised with the bells ringing and, if you are lucky enough join the local fair and enjoy complimentary dancing, drinking and eating!! Say “Chronia Polla” (a wish for many years of health) to everybody but mostly to any Panos, Panayiotis, Panayiota, Maria, Marios you happen to meet, it’s their nameday and in Greece is widely celebrated.

Tip to the Captains: Most services and shops will be closed so be prudent enough not to leave anything outstanding for this weekend…
